"Pink sky at night, sailors' delight"
The sky over our complex was crazy looking the other night, so JEGs and I took some pictures...

Trials and Tribulations of a first time parent.
This is a story my brother e-mailed to my mother in April of 2008. It is important to know that when this happened he was a father for less then two weeks. I think it is a classic, and everytime I read it, I laugh so hard I cry.
RE: You think your grandson is adorable?
I got Owen out of bed this morning around 8:10. Figuring on a quick change so I could get to work, I took him into his room. He was still somewhat asleep but Bryn had alerted me to the possibility of a poopy diaper. No problem, I'm becoming an old hand at this already.
I get him undressed down to his diaper and I can see from the outside that yes, he did pooh. I go through the routine of taking the diaper off, wiping him down and getting the new diaper ready. I put on the diaper, right side fastened first and I go for the Vaseline for his circumcision. When I return to Owen, I find that he is peeing, straight up into his own face. As you can imagine, he has a look of…..shall we say irritation on his face. To protect my child I cup my hand over his penis in hopes of stopping him from peeing. I actually thought this would make it stop. But as you can guess, it did not. All I accomplished was getting me wet and stopping him from urinating in his own face. A small victory but one that I will gladly take. Diaper 1.
I clean him up, basically giving him a wet wipe bath as he had pretty much pee over his entire body. The changing table now wet, I moved him to the crib to change into another diaper. I get the diaper on, Vaseline in the right spot, no problems. As I start to pull his onesie over his head, I can head the unmistakable sound of yet another pooh. The little man must have had a lot to eat last night, or he had it in for his father. OK, no big deal. Having learned from similar experiences in the past, I wait five minutes to make sure he is done his "business". Nothing new seems to be happening so I once again disrobe him and again give him a wet wipe bath. I tell you, the boy is pretty damn clean by now, or one would think anyway. Diaper 2 (keep in mind there are only 2 diapers left in his room now.)
After cleaning him up, getting his diaper on, I put on a new onesie. Now please understand, I can take off a onesie no problem but putting them on is still a challenge I have yet to master. I feel like I'm choking him ever time I bring it over his head. His crying at this time makes me believe he too thinks I'm choking him. Should be interesting how this affects our future relationship. So everything is looking good, onesie is on, no pooh sounds, no pee. I turn to get his outfit on, his Navy blue "daddy's little rookie". One of my favorite outfits, for obvious reasons. I insert the first leg rather easily, the second leg goes in with a bit more effort but I evenutally get the rabbit down the hole. As I start to button up the front and go to place his right arm into the sleeve, what do I find? His entire right side from his hip to his shoulder is soaked. Little dude has got me again. Apparently daddy still needs to learn to fasten the diaper tighter. Diaper 3
A third wet wipe bath, the last diaper and a new onesie later, Owen is finally dressed. The time? 8:55. It took me 45 minutes to dress my son this morning.
One unforeseen benefit from all of this? My right index figure is unusually soft and tender from the multiple trips to the Vaseline jar. All the better to stroke his adorable little face with….
I guess.
Hope you enjoyed this. After a particularly difficult night, Owen brought some much needed humor to his parents this morning. Got to love him for that

A is for Availible and that's it.
My quest for the perfect keychain contiunes.
First I have to say I had an old flame note that I don't have a bottle opener on my keyring..
....
.....
Uh, yeah. I'm not that kind of girl. To be fair, we dated when I was 16 and he lives in New York now. I guess my levels of fabulosity don't translate well over the pages of Facebook.
After I posted my match.com ad , I've been on the prowl. Nothing too serious- a couple coy looks, some intense eyecontact and some overly friendly touching, but nothing I was ready to take to dinner.
On Sunday I was in Hallmark and I picked up this little number by the cashier:
It was even inscribed with the letter 'A' on the front! Obviously that was for me! So I picked it up and carried it around as I started collecting my cards for the month of June (it's a busy month. I knew I was going to be there for a while).
As I was walking around the floor we flirted with each other. I traced the letter on the front and stared into it's shiny facade. After a couple laps around the 'birthday section' I was even so bold as to open the locket (I move fast, what can I say?) and looked inside. There were two spaces for pictures to be displayed. Perfect! Obviously this chain appriciated family, why else would there be room for pictures?? What a perfect place to store memories of my nieces and nephew!
As I rounded the corner and decended on the 'anniversary' section (like I said, it's a busy month) things started to go sour. I noticed the hinge for the locket was very loose and looked like it may not last too long. Obviously this one has been around the block a few times. Also I have one nephew and two neices (soon to be three). After much debate I realized I wanted 4 kids, this only had room for 2. This was NOT a subject to be compromised on.
I started to think that maybe this wasn't the match made in heaven hallmark like I thought it would. I found it by the cashiers so it's pretty safe to assume it just wants someone to take it home. I'm not the kind of girl who just takes something home. Sure, it was pretty and all, but is not the kind of thing I bring home to my parents. The quality was not there.
So as I paid for my stack of cards, I slowly placed the keychain back in it's holder. The cashier asked if I changed my mind and I said, "He's a one-night stand. I'm looking for something a little more long term."
As I left the store I realized that the right one is out there- just not in Hallmark.
Always & Forever,
ME

Simple Pleasures 6/6/09
I'm starting a new feature today called "Simple Pleasures".
I was sitting at my breakfast bar this morning trying to multi-task about 12 different things when I came to a realization. I get so wrapped up in the day to day grind like work, paying bills, babies, cooking ,cleaning etc... I forget the simple pleasures in life.
So I dedicate my first simple pleasures to my $3.99 supermarket-bought flowers:
I don't know what kind of flowers they are, but I know I bought them because they were the closest thing I could find to my favorite flower, tigerlillies. And I love how the look against my green kitchen paint ;)
How about you? Any simple pleasures that make you smile?
Always and Forever,
ME

A Quickie
I'm going to keep this short since I posted twice yesterday.
It is rainy and cold today (the calendar says June, but Mother Nature didn't get that memo). Being the fabulous yet lazy diva I am, I decided to rock my weave today in lieu of doing my hair.
This is my hair normally (curled):
and now with the best $40 I ever spent:
The best part is my actual hair is doing this cute, finger waves in the front and around my bangs! I feel like such a 40's starlet. I want to put on a red satin gown and go to a club and drink martini's all night!

Happy Friday everyone.

My late-night affair...
I don't claim to be a die-hard sports fan. Honestly, the commitment of watching the games is a little much for me.
I like football because you know that on Sunday there will be a game- with the occasional Monday thrown in for shits and giggles. I follow the Eagles, and that's it.
Basketball, hockey and baseball is a whole nother story. Those games are peppered throughout the week, and I've got too much going on to worry about catching the games. Since we are being totally honest, I don't even care if the Sixers or Flyers win any games (sorry JEGs).
However, living with someone changes you. I know it's only been a week, but the Phillies have already become a staple in my nightly routine.
I liked baseball before. No, really, I did. If JEGs was watching a game, I'd pay attention. I'd ask and genuinely cared if they won.
Since I'm on the night shift this week, I don't get home till midnight-ish. And every single night JEGs has been passed out when I get home with the Phils game on the bedroom (that's right, a bedroom- there is no baseball in the boudoir).
As we were saying our goodnights on AIM tonight, he says he is going to get in bed and watch the Phils until he falls asleep. A little voice inside my head went "YESSSSS, they are playing tonight!"
I know, are you as shocked as me??
Before you know it I'll be wearing sneakers and peeing with the door opened.
Or not. Hopefully.
Always and Forever,
ME
